I submitted a “page” for artist and author, Sofia Dabalsa’s 2nd annual Goddess Chronicles Book Project, benefiting the girls from Girls, Inc. This year’s theme was “Your Voice Matters” and I was happy to both sponsor this worthy project and contribute a piece for this beautiful book!
Sofia explained, “The theme of this art journal is Goddess Chronicles: Your Voice Matters” and the book will inspire young and old; girls and women with messages from the heart to use their powerful voice in the world. This book will help empower young girls, enhance their self-esteem and support their growth as young leaders. The original submissions will be assembled into a handmade book will be donated to empower young girls at Pearl-Girls, an organization in Dallas, Texas that is dedicated to uplifting, educating, and motivating young women and girls! My hope is that each time a young girl sits to view The Goddess Chronicles: YOUR VOICE MATTERS! it will inspire her to find the strength in her voice.”

I’ve been BUSY, BUSY, BUSY in my studio…I want/need to raise money for “Color of Woman” teacher certification training with Shiloh Sophia McCloud, so I’ve put “production art” pieces at a priority level.
I’ve created several mixed media, abstract bangle bracelets which are getting a varnishing today. These are fun to make, although they take several hours as each one is comprised of layers of paper, paint, ink, water soluble crayons, etc. and the inside surface is painted with high quality, coppery gold paint from Golden Artist Colors (R) The pictures don’t do them justice and the colors will look richer after layers of polyurethane. There’s a lot of detail on each on…I’ll shoot some close ups once they’re done.

Since I’ve sold WORDS really quickly, I did another large word this weekend: L-O-V-E – This is another mixed media piece with loads of detail.

Happy Presidents’ Day! It’s sunny and FRIGID outside…wishing for Spring so I can be outside. At least the sunshine was beautiful, streaming in my studio windows.
Today, I worked on an Altered wooden word to sell. I’m trying to raise money for art training in California and so, I’ve switched from creating art for my own pleasure to producing art as a source of income.
D-R-E-A-M is such a lovely word…and one of my favorite things to do, both literally and figuratively! This piece was done with papers, acrylics, water soluble crayons, inks, etc. and is available for sale in Misty’s Art Etsy Shop.
UPDATE 02/18/13: SOLD! More similar pieces will be posted for sale soon!

Today, I popped on Facebook and happened upon a gorgeous painting – “She Lived” created by one of my favorite teachers, Sharon Tomlinson (All Norah’s Art). The painting was of a couple (Sharon and her husband) in a style inspired by artist, Peter Michev. I enjoyed both Sharon’s version and Peter’s art so much, I decided to spend my Sunday Studio Time painting a couple in a similar style.
So…”Ancient Times” was created tonight – inspired by my dear husband; Sharon and Peter Mitchev.
This piece is mixed media on canvas – acrylics, ink, papers, graphic.
